Abstract

This study focused on the design and fabrication of a composite nanofibrous dressing based on gelatin and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)  loaded with clove methanolic extract using the electrospinning technique. The scaffolds were cross-linked with glutaraldehyde vapor and characterized for their morphological, chemical, and mechanical properties by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and tensile testing. The results demonstrated that the fabricated dressings exhibited a uniform nanofibrous structure, suitable mechanical strength, and high-water absorption capacity. Moreover, the incorporation of clove methanolic extract
significantly enhanced the antibacterial activity of the dressing, particularly against Gram-positive bacterial strains, and accelerated the healing process of burn wounds in an animal model. These findings suggest that this biocompatible and antibacterial dressing holds great potential as an innovative and effective therapeutic approach for burn wound management.
