Guide for Authors

Introduction

Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure that the review and publication of your paper are as swift and efficient as possible.

Iranian Journal of Catalysis seeks to publish experimental or theoretical research results of outstanding significance and timeliness in the field of catalysis in chemistry and related disciplines.

The scope of Iranian Journal of Catalysis includes homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, catalytic reactions, computational catalysis, synthesis and catalytic function of novel inorganic solids and complexes, enzymatic catalysis and spectroscopic methods for structural characterization.

Publications may be in the form of Articles, Reviews, Notes, Letters, Short Communications and Spotlights.

The contents of papers are the sole responsibility of the authors, and publication shall not imply the concurrence of the Editors or Publisher.

Types of Contributions

Articles

Articles are full-length expositions of extensive and significant experimental or theoretical studies. Articles will be published in English, in double spaced typing on pages of uniform size with a wide margin on the left. The authors are urged to arrange the subject matter clearly under headings such as Introduction, Experimental, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References, Table and Figure Captions. Microanalytical (C, H, N, O and then alphabetical) and spectral (IR, NMR, MS, etc.) data should be reported in the case of new compounds.

Reviews

Reviews  will usually be written at the invitation of Editors. Especially welcome are reviews based, in part, on work in the author’s laboratory as well as reviews distinguished by some novel interpretation or presentation of the material.

Short Communications

Communications must feature novel and significant work of exceptional interest in preliminary form; they may be either experimentally oriented or entirely theoretical. Communications must be complete, self-contained papers, and not preliminary reports. In style and presentation they should conform to that laid down for manuscripts but length should not exceed three (two) printed pages in the journal. The editors will consider manuscripts which feature urgent significant results. Contributions that are sensibly speculative or constitute new interpretations of older findings are appropriate.

Notes
Notes should be concise accounts of studies of a limited scope.

Microanalytical (C, H, N, O and then alphabetical) and spectral (IR, NMR, MS, etc.) data should be reported in the case of new compounds.

Letters
Letters (normally not to exceed 4 template-based pages, including tables, graphics, and references and notes) are preliminary reports of new research results whose significance to the scientific community justifies rapid communication. The Editors evaluate Letters with the aid of referees on the basis of urgency, quality, originality, and general interest. The Editor may also reject inappropriate manuscripts without consulting referees. Authors are required to submit a brief statement of the significance of the work presented. The results should not have been previously published in any form or have been submitted for publication elsewhere.

Spotlights

Spotlights focus on reagents chosen by predoctoral students. Inquiries concerning this section should be directed to the editorial office prior to manuscript preparation ([email protected], [email protected]).

Submission of Papers

Submission of a paper implies that it has not been published previously, that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that if accepted it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the publisher.

Manuscript Preparation

General

Manuscripts must be typewritten, double-spaced with wide margins. All the authors should be identified including E-mail addresses and Fax numbers. Full postal addresses must be given for all co-authors. Authors are requested to supply the names and email addresses for three experts in the subject of their manuscript to be considered by the Editors as potential referees. Authors should consult a recent issue of the journal for style if possible. The Editors reserve the right to adjust style to certain standards of uniformity. Authors should retain a copy of their manuscript since we cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss of papers. Original manuscripts are discarded one month after publication.

Language and Style

Manuscripts should be written in English in a clear and concise manner and follow the style of a current issue of Iranian Journal of Catalysis.

Manuscripts which are not written in fluent English will be rejected.

Online Submission

Authors should submit their manuscripts online. Electronic submission substantially reduces the editorial processing and reviewing times and shortens overall publication times. Please follow the hyperlink “Submit online” on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.

All correspondence should submit their manuscripts via ScholarOne Mauscript website. You will receive the Paper ID after the submission. Please read the Author guidelines before submission.

Authors could learn more about submitting via ScholarOne through video tutorials, user guides, and FAQs. The resources are designed to help Authors/Reviewers set up accounts, create and track submissions, and get published via ScholarOne Manuscripts.

Title page

The title page should include:

The name(s) of the author(s)

A concise and informative title

The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)

The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author(s)

Abstracts

Please provide an abstract up to 150 words. The abstract should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references.

Keywords

Please provide 4 to 6 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes.

Text

Follow this order when typing manuscripts: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Experimental, Results and Discussion (may be separate) Conclusion (optional), Acknowledgements, References, Figure Captions and then Tables. Do not import the Figures or Tables into your text. The corresponding author should be identified with an asterisk and footnote. All other footnotes (except for table footnotes) should be identified with superscript Arabic numerals.

Text Formatting

Manuscripts should be submitted in Word format.

Use a normal, plain font (e.g., 10-point Times New Roman) for text.

Use italics for emphasis.

Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.

Do not use field functions.

Use tab stops or other commands for indents, not the space bar.

Use the table function, not spreadsheets, to make tables.

Use the equation editor or Math Type for equations.

Save your file in doc format. Do not submit docx files.

Manuscripts with mathematical content can also be submitted in LaTeX.

Headings

Please, use the decimal system of headings with no more than three levels.

Abbreviations

Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.

Footnotes

Footnotes can be used to give additional information, which may include the citation of a reference included in the reference list. They should not consist solely of a reference citation, and they should never include the bibliographic details of a reference. They should not also contain any figures or tables.

Footnotes to the text are numbered consecutively; those to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data). Footnotes to the title or the authors of the article are not given reference symbols.

Always use footnotes instead of endnotes.

Units

SI units should be used whenever possible in all manuscripts, tables and illustrations. Manuscripts containing non-SI units may be returned to the author.

Acknowledgments

Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list.

References

Citation

Reference citations in the text should be identified by numbers in square brackets, and the full reference should be given in a numerical list at the end of the paper. Some examples:

1. Negotiation research spans many disciplines [3].

2. This result was later contradicted by Becker and Seligman [5].

3. This effect has been widely studied [1-3,7].

References list

The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. Do not use footnotes or endnotes as a substitute for a reference list.

References should be given in the following form:

Reference to a journal publication:

[1] J. van der Geer, J.A.J. Hanraads, R.A. Lupton, J. Sci. Commun. 163 (2000) 51–59. doi: 10.1002/ejoc.200801115.

Reference to a book:

Reference to a chapter in an edited book:

[3] G.R. Mettam, L.B. Adams, in: B.S. Jones, R.Z. Smith (Eds.), Introduction to the Electronic Age, E-Publishing, Inc. New York, 1994, pp. 281–304.

Reference to a conference

[4] Inui T, Yamase O, Fukuda K. In: Jansen J C ed. Proceedings of the 8th International Congress on Catalysis, Vol III. Berlin: Berlag Chemie, 1984. 569.

Always use the standard abbreviation of a journal’s name according to the ISSN List of Title Word Abbreviations, see www.issn.org/2-22661-LTWA-online.php

Tables

All tables are to be numbered using Arabic numerals.

Tables should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.

For each table, please supply a table caption (title) explaining the components of the table.

Identify any previously published material by giving the original source in the form of a reference at the end of the table caption.

Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data) and included beneath the table body.

Artwork

For the best quality final product, it is highly recommended that you submit all of your artwork – photographs, line drawings, etc. – in an electronic format. Your art will then be produced to the highest standards with the greatest accuracy to detail. The published work will directly reflect the quality of the artwork provided.

Color Art

Color art is free of charge for online publication.

If black and white will be shown in the print version, make sure that the main information will still be visible. Many colors are not distinguishable from one another when converted to black and white. A simple way to check this is to make a xerographic copy to see if the necessary distinctions between the different colors are still apparent.

If the figures are printed in black and white, do not refer to color in the captions.

Color illustrations should be submitted as RGB (8 bits per channel).

Figure Lettering

To add lettering, it is best to use Helvetica or Arial (sans serif fonts).

Keep lettering consistently sized throughout your final-sized artwork, usually about 2–3 mm (8–12 pt).

Variance of type size within an illustration should be minimal (e.g., do not use 8-pt type on an axis and 20-pt type for the axis label).

Avoid effects such as shading, outline letters, etc.

Do not include titles or captions within your illustrations.

Figure Numbering

All figures are to be numbered using Arabic numerals.

Figures should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.

Figure parts should be denoted by lowercase letters (a, b, c, etc.).

If an appendix appears in your article and it contains one or more figures, continue the consecutive numbering of the main text. Do not number the appendix figures, “A1, A2, A3, etc.” Figures in online appendices (Electronic Supplementary Material) should, however, be numbered separately.

Figure Captions

Each figure should have a concise caption describing accurately what the figure depicts. Include the captions in the text file of the manuscript, not in the figure file.

Figure captions begin with the term Fig. in bold type, followed by the figure number, also in bold type.

No punctuation is to be included after the number, nor is any punctuation to be placed at the end of the caption.

Identify all elements found in the figure in the figure caption; and use boxes, circles, etc., as coordinate points in graphs.

Identify previously published material by giving the original source in the form of a reference citation at the end of the figure caption.

Figure Placement and Size

When preparing your figures, size figures to fit in the column width.

Most figures should be 39 mm, 84 mm, 129 mm, or 174 mm wide and not higher than 234 mm.

For vector graphics, the preferred format is EPS; for halftones, please use TIFF format. MS Office files are also acceptable.

Vector graphics containing fonts must have the fonts embedded in the files.

Graphical abstract

A Graphical abstract is mandatory for this journal. It should summarize the contents of the article in a concise, pictorial form designed to capture the attention of a wide readership online. Authors must provide images that clearly represent the work described in the article. Graphical abstracts should be submitted as a separate file.

Proofs

Proofs will be sent to the author (first named author if no corresponding author of multi-authored papers is identified) and should be returned within 48 hours of receipt. Please note that authors are urged to check their proofs carefully before return, since the inclusion of late corrections cannot be guaranteed.

CopyrightA copyright transfer form is sent to the corresponding author with the proof. It should be completed and returned to the Editorial Office by fax or mail as soon as possible.
