Abstract

The Zn-MSN and Mg-MSN nanocomposites were synthesized using post-synthesis method from the pristine MSN, and characterized by using the instrumental methods such as FTIR, XRD, SEM, and N2 physisorption. Their applications of the CO2 capture were evaluated under five variables including nanomaterial concentrations (7-30 mg), contact time (1-2 min), pressure (1-2 bar), temperature (20-30 °C), and gas flow rate (1-7 m3h-1) for the CO2 capture efficiency was investigated by the central composite design of response  surface  methodology (CCD-RSM). The results indicated that at optimum conditions (adsorbent concentration of 30 mg, contact time of 2 min, pressure of 8 bar, temperature of 30 °C, and gas flow rate of 4 m3h-1), the Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity of Mg-MSN and Zn-MSN were 4.42 and 2.57 mmol g−1, respectively. The results decorating the MSN with Mg and Zn species, the CO2 capture Mg-MSN and Zn-MSN were evaluated about 323% and 188%, respectively in compared to the pure MSN (1.37 mmol g−1). The thermodynamic results indicated that the adsorption of CO2 molecules by the synthesized nanocomposites was more controlled by the physicochemical pathways and exothermic processes.
