Colored effluents caused by organic dyes endanger the health of living organisms and the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to remove such dyes before discharge into natural watercourses. The ancient Egyptians and Persians used Alizarin dye, Historically it was derived from the roots of plants of the madder genus that back to 3000 BC. In recent years, polymer hydrogels or their composites have received more attention as adsorbents of heavy metal ions, and the removal of recalcitrant organic dyes due to their low cost, easy transport, and reusability. In the current study, we have tried to investigate the effect of composites based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), chitosan matrix, and metal cores on the removal and decomposition of organic dyes such as Eriochrome black T (EBT) and Alizarin red (AR). The results of EBT and AR degradation by the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method clearly show many by-products during the degradation process by our hydrogel, which can be potentially helpful to the environment. The results showed the completed removal of dyes from contaminated water.
