The use of boreholes to access geological resources has a long history and the study of recovered core samples is still pivotal in modern geological and palaeoclimate studies. An example of the incorporation of a locally important borehole core into the in the infrastructure of a public recreation area in north of England is described. The need for more and better explained displays of such geoheritage to aid public understanding of the importance of boreholes and core samples is highlighted.
